Today was an absolutely beautiful day for peach picking. We went early to beat the heat as well as the traffic leaving San Antonio. Because we arrived there early, there was still a cool breeze while we were picking. It may also have been the most beautiful batch of peaches I have ever picked. The peaches were huge, and the ones that were ready to eat were so juicy!
Peach picking is a tradition that family has been doing for many years. I’ve continued the tradition with my kids since they were very little. I love that they already have the passion and appreciation for picking fruit fresh from an orchard. My grandparents took me peach picking for the first time when I was 3 years old. I had a bib with a scoop at the bottom that was probably full of juice by the time we were finished picking for the day. It started my mild obsession with fresh-picked peaches. They remain my favorite fruit to this day. But no peaches compare in flavor to the ones fresh picked in Fredericksburg, TX!
We picked many pounds of peaches today, and spent less than an hour doing so. We plan on eating lots of fresh peaches, topping pound cake, eating with ice cream, making cobbler and jam. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
Thank you, Jenschke Orchards, for a great day of picking!
